So, here's my super ambitious winter break reading list. I figure I'm in good shape if I manage to finish one of these things.

In something like priority order:
-The House of the Spirits
-One Hundred Years of Solitude
-Sophie's World
-Crime and Punishment
-old notes from AP Euro, AP Bio, AP Chem, AP English
-Waterland
-finish Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy series

Any thoughts on selection/ordering? Any additions? Any movie suggestions, because those are much more likely to actually happen?

For the record, I'll be home for 3.5 weeks and will probably have some free time in the week or so between when I get back and when classes start.

Ok, I know I never post here anymore. I just never feel like I have anything to say.

That said, here's my schedule for this semester

CS31 - Intro to Computer Systems
CS51 - Models of Computation
AM117 - Intro to Computational Linear Algebra
AM165 - Statistical Inference I
AM171 - Information Theory

Plus band (2 days a week), quiz bowl (2 days a week), mathWiSE (1 day a week), and tutoring (3 days a week). Apparently I'm suicidal.

Comment and I'll give you a letter. In your journal, list 10 of your favourite songs that begin with that letter.

From the letter M, in no particular order:
1)"Mad World," Gary Jules
Kari, this is your fault. I once stuck this on repeat and listened to it something like 30 times in a row.

2)"Mad Russian's Christmas," Trans-Siberian Orchestra
Nutcracker w/ electric guitars. Not actually my favorite of Trans-Siberian Orchestra's, but still extremely cool.

3)"Mathematics Paradise," The Klein Four
Yes, I am a nerd. Did you have a problem with that?

4)"Manic Monday," The Bangles
Yay Bangles.

5)"Maneater," Nelly Furtado
I still can't figure out half the words, but it's a good dancing/driving song.

6)"Marx and Engels," Belle & Sebastian
It just sounds so delightfully mellow...

7)"Mammal," They Might Be Giants
Again, I am a nerd.

8)"The Mummer's Dance," Loreena McKennitt
My first introduction to Loreena McKennitt, and still one of my favorites. This is Kari's fault, too.

9)"Mr. Brightside," The Killers
Random song, another one that gets stuck on repeat a lot.

10)"Millennium Village Medley," Deaf Shepherd
A recent discovery from "The Rough Guide to Scottish Music." I was sad that I couldn't find any of their other stuff at the library. It just sounds so happy!

There are too many good songs that start with M.

There are two types of people in the world, morning people and night owls. Or Red Sox fans and Yankees fans. Or boxers and briefs. Or people who divide the world into two types of people and those who don't. Let your preferences be known here. And if you're feeling verbose, defend your choice.

1. Mac? or PC?
PC, although I have to admit that, for all intents and purposes, my experience with Macs is confined to the Mac Classics and such that I had to use in elementary/middle school. Perhaps Macs would be worth a try, but I'm used to PCs.

2. Pizza: Chicago or New York style?
I LOVE Chicago style pizza, but I don't really think of it as being the same dish as other forms of pizza. Seriously, though, I like most pizza that doesn't have too many toppings, and more cheese = better.

3. Brownies/fudge containing nuts:
Nuts do not belong in brownies. On a related note, raisins do not belong in desserts of any kind.

4. Do you hang your toilet paper so that the "tail" hangs flush with the wall, or over the top of the roll like normal people do?
I am not normal in many ways, but this is one of them.

5. Toothpaste: Do you squeeze the tube in the middle, or squeeze from the bottom and flatten as you go?
Middle.

Bonus: Share your favorite either/or.
Pure or applied math. I'm an applied math convert.

And speaking of applied math, I should either do my project or pack.

I am DONE! And I really, really hope there weren't any stupid boundary cases that I forgot to check for, because I'm kind of sick of looking at this project. But I'm done! I'm done! I'm going to go pass out now!

Ok, so now I'm done with all my academic stuff except my CS project commenting, which I have spent way more time whining about than it really merits. It's really hard to be motivated to write what the code is doing in normal English whent that's the only thing left.

My exams all seem like they were a very long time ago. Including the ones I took today. I'm almost positive that I at least passed all of them, and I'm fairly sure I got As on amath and geo. *prepares to pay for overconfidence* Maybe studying for exams is a good idea after all...

I am so very, very, very ready for break. It's going to feel unnatural not to always be working (or at least carrying work around), though. That was probably the most studious semester I've spent in the past few years.

Not that I ever post here anyways, but I think I'm going to try taking a week without touching my computer at some point during break, as my fingers/wrists/arms are starting to yell at me. No email, IM, LJ, Facebook...I'm having issues with this idea already. So yeah, call me if you need me or want to make me feel loved (send me an email before Christmas if you don't have my number).

Ok, I'm going to stop procrastinating so that I'll be able to wake up in time to pack/clean/do the ridiculous quantities of laundry I have to do before I leave. 'Night all.

FUCK.

Here's what I have to do between now and when I go home.
*CS project - I get to write Othello, complete w/ intelligent computer player. I've at least started this, and I don't expect it to be too horrible. However, it will be time consuming. Due Dec. 19, although I'm aiming to be done by Wednesday night (ok, you can stop laughing now). Well, I've been done with programming since Thursday night. Commenting sucks.
*Math problem set - the last one, apparently significantly harder than normal. May or may not get done. Due Dec. 11.
*Grading - last calc assignment, on solids of rotation so it's taking me a ridiculously long time to grade each one. Due Dec. 12.
*DiffEq exam, Dec. 15 @ 2.
*Geo exam, Dec. 18 @ 9.
*Math exam, Dec. 18 @ 2.
*Packing/laundry/cleaning.

I REALLY, REALLY, REALLY can't afford to get sick now. *attempts to hold off illness by force of will and lots of orange juice* Success!

The last two football games:
Dartmouth 19, Brown 13 in overtime
Columbia 22, Brown 21

I don't want to talk about it.

Actually, I do, but I've spent the last 12 hours or so trying to convince myself that I don't care about football and therefore should neither be ranting nor being depressed about this.

Music:Come With Me - Spamalot

IF YOUR LIFE WAS A MOVIE, WHAT WOULD THE SOUNDTRACK BE?
So, here's how it works:
1. Open your library (iTunes, Winamp, Media Player, iPod, etc)
2. Put it on shuffle
3. Press play
4. For every question, type the song that's playing
5. When you go to a new question, press the next button
6. Don't lie and try to pretend you're cool...

HAHAHA...I love how not a single one of these makes sense. And Elton John is definitely overrepresented. I insist on doing this again (mostly because I'm not quite ready to go back to CS).

Well, at least this time not EVERY song was completely inappropriate for the situation.

I believe we have a new winner in the category of disgusting-sounding Ratty food: salmon with minted pea puree.

Also, it bothers me that grading intro calc homework is taking me longer than any of my actual classes or other activities, including band and (I think) CS.

Our geo lab today was on topographic maps, and one set was for Mount St. Helens. And I was once again remindend that the East Coast has no mountains, and became homesick.

Ok, time to go back to linear algebra homework (I really, really hate this class).

This is even worse than the one last year about Chicago being a state and New Hampshire being a ski resort.
